Mountain Guide
-
1. The Mountain
The climb is a metaphor for a timed challenge, where several Goats set out to reach the summit of a mountain.
Winning is not about being first to reach the summit but accumulating the highest number of points on the climb and becoming the savviest goat.
-
2. Goats and Herders
A Goat has a number of Team Members. Each Goat has a name and a coloured icon.
Progress is monitored and evaluated by the Herders, who are the Goats’ mentors and task reviewers throughout the climb.
-
3. Milestones and Tasks
The path to the top of the mountain is mapped out with pre-determined milestones. Every milestone has a name, description and a deadline associated with it.
Each milestone is subdivided into tasks and each task also has a name, description, and a deadline and in some cases, there are resources provided to support the team’s efforts.
-
4. Reflection Points
Each team member must individually reflect on 4 focus areas:
1. Leadership and Organization
2. Collaboration and Communications
3. Effort and Ingenuity
4. Emotional Health and Team SpiritThen the Team must analyse their alignment and reflect on their learning journey since the last reflection point.
-
5. Additional Tasks
Teams craft their own unique path to the next milestone by creating their own tasks.
Herders may provide feedback and award points for each additional task as well as their overall creativity and unique pathway.
-
6. Task Submission
Each step up the mountain is completed when the task is submitted for review by the Herder.
Before submitting a task, the teams upload files containing their work or use the text editor to describe their efforts
-
7. Task Delegation
Each Task needs a leader who is responsible for making that submission. Team members participating in that task should also be identified.
-
8. Points and evaluation
Tasks will have a maximum number of points assigned to them and can be assigned to one or more Herders for review.
Herders review and provide feedback and award points based on their evaluation of the team’s submission.
-
9. Feedback and messaging
When the Herders feedback is ready it is visible within the Task or via the messaging system.
Messages and feedback between the Herder and the Goats and vice versa are about specific Tasks or general topics relating to the challenge.
-
10. Deadlines
The Milestone Review Process is the last step in the milestone and can only begin when all tasks and reflection points have been submitted, or skipped.
Some tasks have their own specific deadlines, although by default task deadlines are aligned to the Milestone deadline.
Your Team deadline performance will be measured for every Task submitted and reported as either Early, On-Time, Late or Very Late.
